Players
Joe Funicello (C)

Tremendously talented senior defender who will travel to play in Italy this July.  A two-time All-FCIAC selection and current team captain, Joe was named the MVP of the Region IV team at this year's Senior Bowl, the MVP of the FCIAC Tournament, and the MVP of the Class LL State Championship game for Norwalk.  As a two-time member of the All-Area Team and a 2004 selection to the All-CT Post Team, Joe led the Bears to the FCIAC finals and state championship match.  He was a starter on the 2002 FCIAC title team, and was named team MVP in both 2003 and 2004.  Four year varsity starter.

Steve Cenatiempo (C) A two-time All-State selection and three-time All-FCIAC member, Steve possesses excellent individual ability and mature vision.  A three-time member of the All-Area Team and a 2002 All-CT Post player, Steve captained this year's team that went 18-3-2.  Ended his career as the third
leading scorer in Norwalk history.  Selected to play on the Region IV team at the 2004 Senior Bowl, a game in which he scored the team's second goal.  Will play Division I college soccer next season.  Four year varsity starter.
Dan Freshman (C) Team captain and Cablevision News12 Scholar Athlete.  A three year varsity member, Dan led by example and set the standard for academic performance by an athlete.  With a GPA in excess of
4.0, Dan has gained early acceptance to Duke University.  The consummate team player, Dan was
often charged with defending the opponent's better player.  Converted game-winning penalty kick in the second round of the state tournament to win over Bridgeport Central.
Tommy Mattera Speedy, determined player who enjoyed his second season on the varsity team after transferring from GFA.  Played several positions this past season, adding to his innate value as a player.  Could both score and defend, and he was named to the All-FCIAC Team in both 2003 and 2004.  He was also a member of the All-Area Team in 2003 and 2004.
Kevin Zezima A three-year varsity member, Kevin played both in the midfield and defense.  A flexible, team-oriented player, Kevin often did what the team needed.  With good technical skills and a quality understanding of the game, Kevin made countless contributions to the program over his three seasons.  As a High Honors student, Kevin will attend a major university this fall.
Dave Dellinger A tough, hard-nosed defender who won everything in the air.  David, a two-year starter at stopper, won the team's Most Improved Player Award in 2003 and the team's Coach's Award in 2004.  With the respect of all his teammates, David's daily pursuit of excellence and his strong belief in the team concept inspired his teammates.
John Beierle Intelligent midfielder whose work ethic was second to none.  A two-year varsity player who understands the need for priorities, John is unquestionably one of the team's most mature thinkers.  A consistent High Honors student, John will attend a major university in the fall of 2005.
Pat Scully A two-year varsity performer, Pat won the WNLK Athlete of the Week this past season.  Scored several big game-winning goals, and was responsible for our goal in the state final against Newtown.  A strong, speedy forward, Pat was a quiet team leader who scored over twenty goals in two seasons.
Bart Donovan Spending his first season on varsity as a goalkeeper, Bart improved immensely as the year progressed.  Made a big save with minutes remaining on Senior Night to preserve the shutout.
Dan Pratt With tremendous speed and desire, Dan played both wing midfielder and defense this season.  Made a huge play sweeping a ball off the goal line in overtime versus Danbury.  Played an exceptional match in the state finals against Newtown.  Will play a major role next season.  A two-year varsity member.
Mike Surace Named the team's Most Improved Player, Mike made save after save this season.  While playing incredibly well in the regular season, Mike made his finest saves during penalty kick shootouts against both Bridgeport Central and Farmington.  His play represented a critical reason for the team's advancement to the Class LL State Finals.  Named team captain for 2005.  Enjoyed his second season at the varsity level.
Tim Petrides Strong and quick, Tim played as an outside defender this past season.  Both determined and focused, Tim made excellent plays in the overtime session in the Class LL Semifinals against Farmington, and he filled in well at sweeper in Funicello's absence.  Has spent two seasons with the
varsity squad.  Will play an important role for next season's team.
Matt Mitchell Tough outside defender who played better with each game of the season.  Both coachable and determined, Matt consistently locked down the right side of the field and made exceptional adjustments against faster players.  Named team captain for the 2005 team.  Two years on varsity.
Kris Whitteaker A fast, athletic player who played on the outside midfield this season.  Given the Play of the Year Award for his game-tying goal against Bridgeport Central in the second round of the state tournament.  Will play an important role for next year's team.  One season on varsity.
Anthony Fraioli A fine offensive player, Anthony played both wing midfield and forward this season.  A varsity member since his freshman year, Anthony has grown into a player who consistently impacts the game.  Good with both feet, Anthony has quality vision and mature understanding of the game's tactics.  Will play a critical role next season.
Jonathan Colangelo The team's inspirational player.  Jon battled injury after injury this season, but always seemed to come back.  Only on the field for one of our three losses, Jon played the defensive midfield position and was often in charge of marking the opponent's best midfielder.  A two-year member of the varsity squad, Jon was named team captain for the 2005 season.  Given the team's Unsung Hero Award for 2004.
Harry O'Campo Midfielder with strong individual skills and a developing vision.  Played well against Staples, coming off the bench to shut down the central midfield.  Will play an important role in 2005.
Michael Fraioli An All-FCIAC and All-Area selection in his second year on the varsity team, Mike scored fifteen goals and assisted on five others.  Scored the game-winning goal in the FCIAC Semi-finals in overtime against number one seeded New Canaan.  Will play a critical role in the 2005 season.
Angelo Bruno A quality athlete with great hands, Angelo is working hard with Coach Kasparis to become a strong goalkeeper.  He developed well over the season and should continue his growth next year.  He is also a member of the varsity baseball team.
Ronald Machado A highly skilled and mature player, Ronald used the year as a learning experience to help him make a big impact next season.  Should make major contributions to next year's squad.



Coaches

Kurt Simonsen - A lifelong Norwalk resident, Coach Simonsen just completed his sixth year as the Varsity head coach, compiling a combined record of 75-29-9.  Before taking over, he served as the program's Junior Varsity and Freshmen coach for four years.  A 1990 graduate of McMahon High School, he went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in English from the University of Connecticut at Storrs and a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Bridgeport.  During the school day Coach Simonsen works as an English Teacher at Norwalk High.  In the off season, he serves as the assistant coach for the varsity baseball team and coaches in the Norwalk Soccer Indoor Program.  He resides in Norwalk with his wife and two daughters.

George Kasparis - A 1994 graduate of Norwalk High School, Coach Kasparis just finished his sixth year as the varsity's assistant coach.  He earned his Bachelors Degree in History from the University of Connecticut at Storrs and a Masters Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Bridgeport.  While holding a state certification in history education, Coach K teaches History at Norwalk High.  Outside of soccer he is the freshman baseball coach.  He resides in Norwalk.

Joe Surace - Coach Surace has just completed his fifth season on the Norwalk staff, guiding both the freshman and junior varsity teams.  While also holding a referee certification, Coach Surace spends much of his time actively coaching in Norwalk Junior Soccer with his travel teams.  Resides in Norwalk with his wife and three soccer playing sons.
